This morning’s lovely wedding is Kim and Jason’s which was shot by Jules Fortune Photography. It’s full of personalised details and elements specific to the couple.
Kim tells us all the details.
‘We were married on 25th June 2011 at the Ramada Jarvis Hotel (now Mercure) near Blackrod, Bolton. It’s actually the anniversary of our first kiss and when we became a couple –we got married on our 7 year anniversary!
I’m a bit of a traditional girl at heart so I wanted to get married back in my hometown (Jason and I live over in Shipley, West Yorkshire). We had a look at a few venues in the Bolton area but we settled on the Ramada Jarvis because it had a more homely feel, we liked the old Georgian part of the hotel, the general décor and feel of the place. It was also nicely located for my parents to get to and there was plenty of room for all of our guests. We chose a gold, ivory and chocolate brown colour theme
The dress I chose was actually the first one I tried on, I fell in love with it straight away but wanted to try on some other dresses on just to make sure it wasn’t a whim….as I was rather giddy being wedding dress shopping! It’s a one of a kind ivory dress with embroidered details and full skirt from a shop in Huddersfield called Bows and Belles. I tried on lots of other dresses at different shops but couldn’t get ‘the one’ out of my mind, so it was a mad dash back to Bows and Belles to pay a deposit, I couldn’t risk someone else snapping it up. The shrug I wore with the dress looks an exact match, but Jason’s Aunty Rowena actually made it for me.
I wanted my wedding jewellery to have special meaning and tie in with the something old, something new, something borrowed….. My Mummy gave me my Grandma’s gold and diamond engagement ring to wear, my something old, which was nice as it meant my Grandma would still be part of my special day. Jason’s Mum let me borrow a pearl necklace which used to belong to Jason’s Great Aunty Dot… Jason bought me a beautiful gold bracelet as a wedding gift, my something new, he had our names and the wedding date engraved along the outside edge. I love it.
Jason had a chocolate brown suit made with a gold silk waistcoat and cravat. I bought him a gold and diamond watch with our initials and wedding date engraved on the back as a wedding present which he wore on the day. He had cufflinks to match; we got all of our jewellery, wedding rings, etc, from a jeweller here in Shipley called Stoners.
I’d like to think the wedding was simple and elegant. I wanted everything to look pretty and just so however, I am aware what is one man’s treasure is another man’s trash…. Jason and I liked it so that’s all that matters really!
I’m quite arty and I like making things and drawing…I’m also quite anal and like things to be perfect, so I made the invitations, table plan, post box and cake boxes myself! Jason did help with the invitations, sticking in the inserts; we had a little production line going which was fun. Our photographer, Jules Fortune, took a photo of us together which we used on the invitations and then on the chocolate wedding favours too.
Aunty Rowena made our wedding cake for us as our wedding present- it was beautiful, she really did us proud. It was a three tier heart shaped fruit cake. All ivory with ivory roses and diamantes.
As we already have everything we need for the house, we asked our guests for homemade or personalised gifts… we got some fantastic things, we were really taken back by how much time, hard work and effort people put in to gifts for us. It was very moving going through them all.
I remember feeling really calm walking down the aisle and just beaming from ear to ear. I didn’t take my eyes off of Jason, he looked so lovely, his chin was wobbling and he looked all teary eyed. Bless him.
Although there was a lot of planning and a lot of excitement about the day itself, I always had my eyes on the prize- and becoming Jason’s wife was the most exciting thing for me, the thing I was most looking forward to. A marriage and not just the wedding day.
It was the proudest day of my life, I’m a very lucky girl to be Jason’s wife and I couldn’t be happier.
Having everyone we love all together, all in the same room at the same time was very special; I just hope everyone enjoyed the day too.
