A Simply Elegant Day – Rachael & Christian at Eaves Hall

Rachael & Christian got married on 16th August 2025 at Eaves Hall.

Christian and I had known each other from school, but we got together through Facebook. He brought his toothbrush to my house and never left! He planned the proposal, telling my whole family to keep it a secret, then popped the question in Lanzarote last August – he even designed the ring!

When looking for a wedding venue we wanted somewhere we could spend the whole weekend with our guests and have the venue to ourselves. We had visited some of James’ Places before and loved the venues and the décor, but Eaves Hall for us stood out, it had everything we wanted.

I did all the planning myself. I knew I wanted a black-tie theme and only one bridesmaid. My sister and I then started looking at ideas online. I also knew I wanted it filmed and definitely wanted a string trio/quartet to add to the vibe.

We found our wedding suppliers either through recommendations or Instagram. We also visited a Little White Books’ wedding fair and OMG the inspiration and temptation was unreal! Of course
I grabbed all the freebies too!

My dress was not the dress I wanted (weird!) my only two preferences were sparkly and sleeves. I walked into Emma Louise Bridal in Bolton, saw this sparkly dress and it fit like a glove. I originally went to have sleeves made for it, however, the alterations specialist said it would ruin the dress so I decided to go without. I’m so pleased I did. I have never felt more beautiful. It was perfect.

Our first dance song was “How long will I love you” by Ellie Goulding. The reason I chose this was I used to sing it to our son, Oscar, when he was a baby. We had a very special IVF journey with Oscar so the song is super special to us.

The most enjoyable things about the day was, firstly, my dress-reveal. I think everyone was shocked as I’m not normally very girly. Christian’s reaction was amazing and exactly what I hoped (ha ha!). Also, all of our closest friends and family being together. It’s not often that happens. The weather was perfect and the kids played all day in the grounds of Eaves Hall. They had to be bribed for photos though!

My piece of advice for any bride-to-be would be: it may seem stressful planning, but afterwards you’ll be gutted it’s over, so try to enjoy it and have something to look forward to after the wedding, like a weekend away, where you can relax and reflect on the perfect day. Also, make sure the photographer/videographer capture your partner’s reaction as you walk down the aisle. It’s something that can’t be recaptured!

Groom’s advice: make sure you write your speech on a piece of paper. It’s awkward reading from your phone. And practise it!
