Macdonald Kilhey Court Hotel & Spa – Laura and Andrew

This Thursday sees the beautiful Standish venue hold its evening wedding fair with Little White Books. Kilhey Court was first built as a gift from a Victorian gentlemen to his new bride and still retains its beautiful grandeur. It’s a versatile venue and can cater for different sized weddings, with lots of space in the gorgeous grounds for outdoor photographs.

Last June, Laura and Andrew celebrated their wedding day at this lovely venue.

‘We met at Sixth form college in IT class! 13 years ago. I was 16 and Andrew was 17. After 10, nearly 11 years together Andrew decided to propose in Mexico. We had visited Mexico a couple of times and always enjoyed ourselves – it was our favourite place. He decided this some months before our holiday in August so he had to hide the ring in his car for months. He then had to get it through airport security without being searched. On the second evening we went for a walk after the evening meal and just sat on a wall looking out to sea. He asked for a hug and then disappeared to the floor and proposed on one knee. I nearly fell off the wall! It was absolutely perfect.

I thoroughly enjoyed planning the wedding. It gave me an excuse to spend an obscene amount of time with my mum and sisters and it was loads of fun. I never understood why some brides have said it is stressful…. It isn’t. You have a choice often between one beautiful thing or another beautiful thing… Simple. I didn’t feel nervous or stressed in any way at all. I was just trying to take everything in and enjoy the day and party!

Our theme was diamonds and pearls from a decoration point of view but we simply wanted good food, drink and lots of chatting and dancing. We also wanted to spend as much time as we could with each other and we did.  We have a big family and coming together in the sunshine, eating nice food and dancing is the best.

Choosing Kilhey Court was easy actually for us as we had a connection as Andrew used to work there during college and we spent our first anniversary in what was to be our bridal suite!

During the planning of the wedding, Little White Books was my guide book. It gave me the best in class and I went with the majority of the suggestions.

On the day, Mick Cookson of Mick Cookson Photography held to his promise and let us breathe. He describes himself as a fat ninja. He is neither fat or a ninja but if you book him you will know what he means. His photos will move you and he gets them without you knowing. We had a session with him beforehand, to which he traveled around 40 miles. He spent time letting us get used to him which we really appreciated.

Grace Cars were quite simply the best. The owner has the ability to put you completely at ease. Not only that but his cars are beautifully presented as are his team of drivers. He even went to the trouble of moving a JCB digger away from the church before we arrived. That is the extra mile.

Cheshire Brides are best in class when it comes to wedding gowns. The owner is not a saleswoman she is a dress maker- a true artisan. She pulled it out the bag for me as for one reason or another I had 6 weeks to get a dress. She did it for me. Her and her team are true professionals working with beautiful gowns.

Rachel Boland Flowers is another genius of the trade. She hit the nail on the head without much direction. Her arrangements were exquisite and received so many comments throughout the day.

James at Video My Wedding is very similar to Mick and actually recommended by Mick. The video he produced was so moving and natural.

Sweet Treats by Rebecca Wood did a sweet table and cupcakes for us in the evening. I have never seen so many adults faces light up when they saw their favourite sweets from their childhood laid out for them. There was absolutely nothing left. Her cupcakes are delicious too.

Suzanne at The Frostery made us the most beautiful cake. She was able to draw out for you what you were describing and she got it spot on. Extremely professional – one meeting required and she did the rest.’

The images show what an amazing day this was – Laura and Andrew look very happy and we wish them well for their upcoming first anniversary.
