Thomas & John were married on 3rd July 2021 at the Gisburne Park Estate, Clitheroe.
“We first met online; we weren’t particularly looking for long term love, but it soon became our forever thing. Our proposal took place at midnight at a New Year’s Eve party surrounded by all our friends, all dressed in pyjamas – it was really special.
When we began looking for our wedding venue, we knew we wanted it to be outside and we wanted it to be unique. At Gisburne Park, we were able to create everything from scratch – a hard task, but we didn’t want a vanilla wedding and we definitely didn’t get that. We knew we wanted a tent/marquee wedding and as we both love to perform, we came up with the idea of a circus. This was our guide for most things, but we had to think carefully about it not looking like a child’s party or fancy dress do.
We found most of our suppliers online. We chose our photographer for his non-invasive, natural documentary style which captures real moments. None of this posed nonsense. We also tried to use local suppliers as much as possible, too.
The music was performed by John’s friends; we were lucky to have two bands perform and really set the stage for a wonderful night. Our first dance was a big moment for us, both being performers we really wanted to wow our guests. So, we put on a show…DRAG! We had costume changes, wig changes, and a 10-minute number with a medley of songs. This was a true highlight of our wedding, we loved it so much we stayed in drag for the rest of the evening. Our guests definitely remember the first dance as a stand-out memory. Our three favourite things from the day were dancing, drinking, and running around!
Going abroad hasn’t been that easy, so rather than spending our honeymoon in Cancun, we went on a UK tour. We went to see Shakespeare’s Stratford-upon-Avon, Stonehenge, Bath to see the Roman Baths, then down to Cornwall, Land’s End, The Minack Theatre and the Eden project. We had fish and chips in every place – it was marvellous!
It’s important to remember, don’t sweat the small stuff. The tiny details that may seem important aren’t. Make sure the big things you want are there, but table numbers, favours… they are not the be all and end all. It was so good just being with people and to feel normal again and I am so happy that our wedding was the place for everyone to party like never before.”
