Kim & Simon tied the knot on 25th July 2024 at Bashall Barn.

Rewind to 2018, it really was love at first sight or shall we say swipe? Yes, we met on a dating app but up until that day we had spent our lives living in the same town, having mutual friends and attending the same events but our paths had somehow never aligned. From the day we eventually met we were inseparable, we moved in together, worked together, welcomed our son in 2020, survived lock down together and on Valentine’s day 2023 Simon popped the question – it was a complete surprise!
When looking for our perfect venue we wanted something that would accommodate family and friends who were travelling from all over the country and abroad. We wanted a venue that
was beautiful and sociable both inside and outside and we were also looking for somewhere that was of neutral décor that we could really put our own mark on.
We came across Bashall Barn after spending the Easter weekend camping just down the road in Waddington. We passed the venue on the way home and it completely took us by surprise.
I called the venue and got an appointment for a viewing with owner Simon the following Monday.

From the second we walked in we both knew it was the one before we even looked around. Simon was so welcoming, he was honest and happy to answer any questions we had and he left us to browse around the whole venue and grounds on our own before sitting down with a coffee to discuss the various packages. Bashall have their own budget builder which was perfect for personalising our wedding and making sure the day we wanted was within our budget.
Lucy at Bashall helped us plan our perfect day and nothing was too much trouble, she took every bit of stress out of the day, which was just what we needed.

We styled the wedding ourselves the day before our wedding, with our little army of helpers –
our vision came to life beautifully. We brought centrepieces, gold cutlery and candles, and the venue also gave us access to their own store room of accessories.
Our colours were white, black and gold with splashes of sage green. Our vibe was Hollywood Glam, the bridesmaids wore floor length black dresses with a striking leg split and their hair was styled into Hollywood waves with pearls. Our daughter and three nieces were our flower girls and they wore grey sage tulle skirts with white lace crop tops accompanied with pearl accessories to compliment the bridesmaids.
The groomsmen and our little ring bearer and son Tommy, wore matching black dinner suits and black patent shoes. Simon added a gold pocket watch and chain, his grandad’s gold cufflinks and his dad’s large black silk bow tie, which made his look slightly different to the groomsmen and wearing items that belonged to family members added a nice personal touch. We hired the suits from Adam at Slater Menswear. They were great to work with especially as one groomsmen had to send his sizes over from America.

The bridal gown and overskirt was Blue by Enzoani a designer who I was obsessed with and Ceecee Alterations made my dress to exactly what I wanted it to be. Chelsea switched lining colours, added layers of sparkle tulle, she added delicate pearl straps and attached my dramatic full sparkle and lace overskirt with invisible hooks to make it removable for dancing later on. I felt amazing and so comfortable all day.
I wanted to have the wedding traditions with me on the day, so for my something old my mum had stitched bows from her wedding dress into the lining of my dress, my something new was my dress and shoes that my maid of honour had bought for me, my something borrowed was from my bridesmaid Vic, she made me a beautiful hamper with the wedding day candle from her wedding day and my something blue was a blue lace garter. On the day I had a brooch attached to my bouquet with a picture of my friend Sarah that passed away, so she was with us walking down the aisle.

When the big day came, despite following the tiktok craze of burying sausages, the summer had taken a turn for the worse and our dream of an outdoor ceremony was looking slim, Lucy had everything under control for either scenario. Roughly two hours before the ceremony the rain had stopped so the decision was made to have the ceremony outside. Lucy and the groomsmen set up the outdoor ceremony area in no time.
The morning of the wedding my makeup artist Lucy McDonough arrived at 5:45. My maid of honour Jen and my mum and friend Donna got to work on all the hair. I felt so lucky to have the most amazing glam squad around me, my hair and makeup was exactly how I wanted it to be.
We were so lucky to have such talented family and friends around us to help us create the day we had planned. Simon’s mum is a florist and created my bouquet and all the bridal party flowers and buttonholes. I had white roses, gypsophila and one single orchid with a white bow and pearls. The bridesmaids and flowers girls had the same colours but with sprigs of eucalyptus throughout the bouquet which tied in with the centrepieces.

We booked Mike from King of Aces Magic as our wedding host and entertainer and our guests were blown away by his magic. Mike entertained our guests all day. He was in charge of organising guests, introducing us and our bridal party to the wedding breakfast and introducing speeches.
He kept the tricks flowing all afternoon and well into the evening and our guests still talk about Mike and comment on him being such a good addition to the day.
For our evening entertainment we had DFC included in our wedding package with Bashall which was brilliant as they are one of the best entertainment companies in the industry. We were able to work alongside DFC and personalise all our wedding music and playlist. Our first dance was to ‘Joker and the Queen’ by Ed Sheeran, it went surprisingly well although I still managed to get it wrong but we covered it up well!
As a surprise for our guests we had an Ibiza resident saxophonist playing along DFC and he really got the party going playing our favourite dance classics. Creating a party atmosphere was something very important to both of us.

The food at Bashall was stunning, from the breakfast, to the wedding meal and the rustic pizza in the evening. We thoroughly enjoyed choosing the menus and they catered to any dietary needs and catered for the children really well too.
We absolutely loved the idea of a cheese tower cake, we had seen these at the Little White Books Wedding Fair and we knew this suited us more than a big traditional cake. Our friend Katie from Forever Graze styled our cake to match the theme of the wedding, and put together the most perfect graze table for guests to enjoy in the evening. We also had a small white vintage love heart
cake by Vanilla Iced which we used for our cake cutting shot.

We partied into the early hours and the bridal suite was just the perfect accommodation before and after the wedding. We all met in the breakfast room the next morning and had a lovely time reminiscing about the day, we couldn’t stop smiling. We left our families and venue in a convertible Mercedes decorated with ‘just married’ bunting and tin cans. Afterwards we spent two nights at the beautiful No.6 Queens Square Cottage in Kirkby Lonsdale. We relaxed and ate and drank our way around the village – it was the perfect ending to the perfect wedding weekend.

Favourite things from the day:

3. The perfect party venue
Our advice for future brides & grooms:
Take supplier recommendations off other couples and do your research.
Attend as many wedding fairs and open days as you can at your chosen venue.
Enjoy every single moment and try not to be a bride/groomzilla, the day will be perfect so eliminate the stress.
