A Stunningly Unique Barn Venue – Enola & Sophia at Rivington Hall Barn

Enola & Sophia tied the knot on 24th August 2024 at Rivington Hall Barn

As soon as we began the wedding planning process, we knew that we wanted to get married in a barn setting that had a vintage feel, as opposed to modern.

Feeling hopeful for a sunny weekend in August, but realistic about northern weather, we wanted an aesthetically-pleasing and scenic outdoor space with emergency rain cover if needed.

From the moment we walked into Rivington Hall Barn, we just knew. We had viewed many stunning barn settings across the North West and, for whatever reason, we did not get the same feeling as we did in Rivington Hall Barn. The dark wood, unique beams, and anglo-saxon features exuded charm, character and had an intimate feel. We liked how, structurally, it was one big space with high ceilings, yet it felt cosy and inviting. We had a very particular theme in mind for our wedding (The forest in Pandora, the planet from the movie, Avatar) and the exquisite mood-lighting throughout the barn complemented this vision. The range of extras on offer, such as backdrops and uplighters, lanterns, confetti cannons and streamers (which fall from the ceiling) made this venue stand out by a mile.

In terms of the dressing rooms, Rivington Hall Georgian House was a complete contrast to the barn but equally as beautiful; it was spacious with a lot of natural light and elegant, timeless decor. In the rooms, there was a range of seating, bathroom facilities and an abundance of mirrors! Adding to this experience, we were provided with prosecco, tea/coffee and delicious pastries. There was also the option to have further breakfast additions – we opted for the bacon and sausage baps.

Whilst on the topic of food, the Rivington catering team offered a range of menu options – all of which were delicious. They were more than happy to adapt certain dishes upon our request and went above and beyond to cater for allergies and intolerances. All of the guests commented on the quality of the food, which was bursting with flavour. We particularly appreciated the unique wide range of canapé options.

The location and atmosphere of the venue gave the impression that we were in the midst of the vast and serene countryside, yet we were only fifteen to twenty minutes away from train stations and a range of accommodation for guests.

The woodland areas around the venue were well-kept, attractive and peaceful. With an idyllic terrace outside of the barn, we could have our drinks reception outdoors, making use of these stunning views. The terrace’s glass walls and ceilings, which we had open thanks to the glorious weather, were stylish and allowed for full natural, outdoor lighting.

There are so many amazing photo opportunities at Rivington Barn inside and out.

After booking our wedding with Rivington Hall Barn, we discovered that Enola (one of the brides) who used to perform in wedding bands, actually performed at Rivington Hall Barn years ago on the night that we met! This was a happy coincidence and felt like a ‘meant to be’ moment.

When we originally visited the barn, we were blown away by the friendliness of the wedding team. They were all extremely knowledgeable and efficient. This was further highlighted throughout the planning process where they went above and beyond to support with our quirky requests. We booked 12 months in advance.

The communication from start to finish was second to none, with all of our wedding guests commenting on how the staff truly enhanced the day. The team responded to emails and calls promptly and with full detail; they constantly reassured us and made us feel at ease; they made helpful suggestions and took the time to understand our vision fully.

We had an initial meeting upon viewing the barn which was informative and thorough. Following this, we were invited to a menu-tasting evening and they also made it clear that we were welcome to visit the barn at any opportunity. During our ‘final details’ meeting with a member of the team, she was extremely accommodating and enthusiastic about our ideas.

Throughout the wedding day, nothing was too much to ask. The staff supported any individual requests; they were generous with drinks; they looked extremely professional and also as though they themselves really enjoyed the wedding. The morning after, the team had carefully packed up all of our belongings, even saving us each of the sections of our cake, and were more than happy to discard any wedding items and recycling on our behalf. We can not speak more highly of this team.

Since we got engaged in Disneyworld’s Animal Kingdom – specifically, Pandora, The World of Avatar – we knew immediately that we wanted to subtly replicate this setting as a theme throughout. In Pandora, the forest contains a range of unique and futuristic flora and fauna, and the colour palette is based around purples, pinks and blues – with a touch of green. Our fabulous photographer recommended a range of florists and specifically described Flower Design Events as ‘whizzes’ at their craft. During our meetings, both face-to-face and virtual, with Flower Design Events, they were bursting at the seams with creative ideas for how to bring our vision to life. Their knowledge on individual flowers was astonishing. As you can see in the images, the flowers used definitely looked rare and futuristic with an exotic feel, leaving us and our guests gasping in amazement. Our bridal bouquets were individually designed to complement our dresses and wedding hair styles. The giant trees, which were real, were decorated in line with the theme and truly brought the magic. As part of the theme, our cake supplier @JonsCakes ensured that Pandora was captured through the colour schemes and unique (yet edible) flowers.

In a nut-shell, if you are looking for a seamless wedding planning experience (thanks to the team), a stunning, charismatic wedding barn and a range of unique personal touches, then Rivington Hall Barn is the venue for you.
