A stunningly adaptable venue – Lizzie & Cameron’s self-styled wedding at Hobbit Hill

Lizzie and Cameron were married on 30th March 2024 at Hobbit Hill.

We wanted our wedding venue to have a barn aesthetic, surrounded by nature with lots of outdoor space. We also wanted accommodation on-site for everyone because of our international guests, and we didn’t want the hassle of moving people about, including us.

We had heard about Hobbit Hill from friends of ours and even though it was raining on the day we visited the venue it was still beautiful. The staff were so lovely and welcoming, they really took the time to get to know us. The space really worked. In the end, it was Cameron who clinched it, he had something negative to say about every other venue, but we walked out the door and he said, “that’s the one.” I turned around and booked it immediately!

We booked our wedding two years in advance. The wedding team at Hobbit Hill were so wonderful on the run up to our big day. They were always kind and happy to share all of their options for us – they wanted to make it work for us. On the day they were good enough to loan us some of the catering fridge space for our cakes which really saved our bacon!

The outside space was stunning and our dream. We used the forest for all sorts of group photos. For our couple photos we went down to the road, with all the lovely trees around it made a moody photoshoot! The interior was a lovely backup too and I loved the stone floors for our ceilidh band – it was so much fun to dance on them!

We decided to style the venue ourselves. My mother is a hobby florist so she created our bouquets with greenery scavenged from our gardens as much as possible to make it sustainable. The décor was all vintage books and glasses that I collected over two years. We couldn’t choose just a few colours, so we did all of the jewel tones and our focus was on sustainability and second-hand décor as much as possible. I am a major crafter, so handmade the place cards, bunting and a lot of the table décor. I also knitted all of the bridesmaid’s shawls and socks to keep them warm on the day.

Keeping it in the family, my 16 year old cousin is a pastry chef in the making so he kindly created seven different styles of cakes and cupcakes for our day.

Rain or shine, Hobbit Hill is stunning. The team there are so professional. The Shire was such a useful space for our family to gather and a memorable place to end our celebrations. We felt like we were in a fairytale the whole weekend!
