Our main priority was finding a venue that matched our personalities and style – luckily we’re pretty much the same person, so this was easy enough to agree on! We were looking for a rustic barn style venue with features such as beams and exposed brick, with a good outside space for our guests and lovely countryside views for our photographs. We weren’t planning for a big wedding, so something that could feel quite intimate for a smaller wedding was perfect for us. Ideally a venue fairly local too, so our family and friends wouldn’t have too far to travel.
At the start, we did consider looking at venues across a wide area, from the Lake District to Derbyshire and even the Cotswolds. But we quickly focused our attention closer to home as we wanted to prioritise our family and friends being able to join us easily. We love Clitheroe and the stunning surrounding countryside, which helped us to narrow down our search for the perfect venue.
We booked our wedding at Hobbit Hill just under a year in advance. Anyone who knows us will tell you we don’t waste any time once we set our minds to something, so we went about planning our special day from the get-go!
We were just blown away with Hobbit Hill from the moment we saw it. It was everything we wanted for our special day and we both fell in love with it immediately. The team are so friendly and welcoming. We just knew this was the place we wanted to get married. From the stunning countryside backdrops, the beautifully landscaped lawns, fairytale woods, and of course the incredible barn itself, bursting with rustic charm. Every little detail is so perfect, they really have thought of everything. A feature we loved was having the option to get married outdoors in the woodland, although on the day we couldn’t resist the indoor ceremony room; the floor-to-ceiling windows flood the room with light and more of those breathtaking views. The accommodation ticked all the boxes too. The luxury bridal suite (which was just that!) was the perfect space to enjoy getting ready for the big day, and the glamping pods meant close family and friends could stay over with us. We especially loved that we had the whole venue to ourselves, meaning our day was just for us and our guests to enjoy.
Every part of Hobbit Hill was picture-perfect, in particular the gorgeous surrounding countryside which made for endless photo opportunities. All our guests commented on how beautiful the scenery was. The pretty woodland edged with fairy lights, and the rope swing was another area we especially loved. It made for some really fun photos, which are among some of our favourites.
We really can’t thank Jen and the wedding team at Hobbit Hill enough for their support and for looking after us from start to finish. Everyone at Hobbit Hill is so warm and welcoming, and they made us feel at home straight away. They guided us through the whole process from booking our wedding to putting the final touches to our day. The team were always just an email away and kept in touch to make sure everything was in place. At our final appointment, Jen carefully helped us plan our day, as always with a big smile on her face, and made sure every little detail was taken care of. I was really nervous on the morning of the wedding, but Jen was there every step of the way to keep me calm and make sure I had everything I needed. Her expertise is second-to-none, and the whole team made sure our day went by seamlessly without us having to think of anything but enjoying it!
We styled the venue ourselves and really enjoyed doing it. We had quite a lot of ideas from the start and wanted to keep things simple, as the venue itself was already so beautiful. We kept things minimal, just adding little touches that reflected our personalities and complemented the room without detracting from it. Our colour scheme was very natural, mainly greens and cream. For our table centrepieces, we sat a mixture of jars with gypsophila on log slices to create different shapes and levels. These were surrounded by dried eucalyptus wreaths, tall, tapered dinner candles and lots of mini tealights. We carried the same theme through to the ceremony room, with dried eucalyptus pew ends, gypsophila and more candles. We ordered the bouquets, buttonholes and cake topper from Desert Dreams, they were the most beautifully arranged dried flowers, which we have been able to keep at home since the wedding.
There are a hundred reasons why we’d recommend getting married at Hobbit Hill! If a country wedding is what you’re looking for, you won’t find better views. We also think it’s perfect no matter the season – it’s super cosy in the colder months and glorious in the summertime, with lots of outside space for you and your guests to make the most of. Finally, you are in the best hands with such an experienced and friendly team who will make sure you have your dream wedding!
