The Great Northern Wedding Show is the perfect destination for
the Northern bride & groom. Our exhibition features 120 of the region’s most
prominent wedding businesses. Every area of wedding planning is covered here,
plus we have beauty demos, mock ceremonies, catwalk shows and a whole feast of
fresh street food, afternoon teas, ice creams and the Flavour bar serving beers
& prosecco.
It’s the ONLY large-scale wedding exhibition in the North West – in
fact, probably the North – where entry is FREE for all. You need to pre-register
before the show for free entry otherwise there is an entry fee on the door. Plus
when you pre-register this helps us keep queuing time to a minimum when the
show opens.
We produce new, bespoke promotional images for every one of
our Great Northern Wedding Shows and where better for a Great Northern Wedding
Show photo shoot than the Great Northern Warehouse in the heart of Manchester.
We were excited to work with bespoke bridal designers Legend
once again, the stars of our Alternative Catwalk shows at the Great Northern
Wedding Show. We asked them to create a timeless sixties classic gown and they
did not disappoint. This dress is the real star of the photo shoot and our
model, Stacey, became a natural sixties icon herself!
Working with us on this latest photo shoot was photographer Mick Cookson, Legend Bridalwear, make up by Kerry Baker Make Up Artist, hair by Bridal Hair by Sam Gateley and thanks to Red Floral Architecture for supplying
bountiful beautiful bouquets! Our models were Stacey and Chris and both did a
cracking job.
We spent the morning shooting outside where the weather was
grey but thankfully there was no rain in Manchester on the day. And after treating the
team to towering burgers at Almost Famous, we retreated indoors to an
unoccupied unit which probably gave us some of the most surprisingly successful
shots of the day.
‘The Dress’ by Legend Bridal Designs:
“For a business whose entire approach is based on bespoke
tailoring we are in love with Brigitte Bardot’s ‘Couture is for grannies’
attitude. Never ones to take the conventional route we love to explore new
ideas and the revolution of the 60’s mod look really appeals to us
Channelling Twiggy we took those sleek lines and simple
silhouette trademarks of miniskirts, A-line dresses and kitten heels and
created a wedding dress for our very own Jane Birkin.
We chose a beautiful guipure 3d sculptured lace with a fab
larger than life flower design which so typifies the 60s. The Mod style is all
in the cut. Moving away from full skirts and froth to simple lines that show
curves we kept the shape simple, opting for an empire style A-line mini dress
with bell sleeves and low scoop back.
We teamed this with a simple silk headband mirroring the
dress sash and our shorter length veil, hand embellished with the bold lace
motifs which float just at shoulder length giving a flirty youthful feel.”
‘Stacey’s Hair’, by Bridal Hair by Sam Gateley
“When Little White Books gave me the brief of a 60’s style shoot, I
thought the only way to go with a 60’s theme is BIG! I did some research on the
classic 60’s icons, Jackie Kennedy, Raquel Welsh & Brigitte Bardot then
settled on a timeless Vertical Roll.
I prepped the Hair with Cloud Nine’s ’The O’ &
Amplifying lotion, and aimed for a ‘not too perfect’ updo.
I was very lucky with our Gent, Chris. He has natural curls
that are a dream to work with. A quick run over with the Hair Dryer and a touch
of Joe Grooming’s Grooming Compound & we had a groomed yet not too perfect
style.”
‘Stacey’s Look’ by Kerry Baker Make Up Artist
“The 60’s mod love of geometric and black and white patterns spilled over into make up, evident by the infamous white eye shadowand black crease look exemplified by Twiggy. The dark crease was left as a definite arched line, while white was the eye shadow colour of choice. I didn’t want to dilute or modernise the mod influence on this shoot, so went all out to create a really authentic 60’s inspired look.
Rather than use a white eyeshadow, I used a pale ivory shade on the lid and blended the kohl liner on the crease slightly, just to soften the look a little. A white pencil was used on the lower lash line then again framed with the black kohl pencil for a defined line. False eyelashes were the fashion accessory of the ’60s. Some girls even wore two sets on the upper and lower lid, so of course I had to apply the same principle for Stacey. A dense lash was applied on the upper lid while a more spiky version applied on the bottom.
Blusher was used in the 60’s as a way of creating a natural glow, and peach/coral ones were also blended up onto the temples and hairline. I used a soft matt coral cream blush on Stacey, and followed the same principle to create a soft and natural glow. It was also fashionable to keep the lips understated, naturally defined without lip pencil in coral, peach and nude tones. Stacey is wearing a warm, coral pink lip stick mixed with a nude matt gloss, just to make it a little more “bridal” but still a look I think even Twiggy would be proud of!”
Buttonholes and bouquets for our photo shoot were provided by Red Floral Architecture.
