Kate & Nicholas tied the knot on Friday 22nd August 2025 at The River Barn.
When searching for our wedding venue, we had a very clear vision of how we wanted the day to feel. It was important that the space flowed naturally, allowing our guests to stay connected rather than drifting into separate rooms. We imagined a venue filled with soft, natural light, a place that felt warm and effortless from the moment you stepped inside. Outdoor seating was a must, but we also wanted the reassurance of generous indoor space should the weather turn.
We focused our search on the northwest of England, wanting to keep the journey as stress-free as possible for our guests.
From the moment we stepped through the doors, we knew The River Barn was the one. We were welcomed with a drink and given a tour that immediately set the tone; warm, personal, and genuinely passionate. The staff made us feel as though our wedding was the only one that mattered, and that level of care stayed with us long after we left.

The main ceremony room captivated us straight away. Even on a grey January afternoon, it felt beautifully bright and uplifting, flooded with natural light. Outside, the gardens were immaculate, clearly loved and meticulously cared for, which meant so much to Kate as someone who adores gardening.
The accommodation was another deciding factor. With the modern, cosy rooms in both the manor house and the cabins, we could have our closest family and friends stay with us on the night of the wedding.
In every way, The River Barn felt like home, just dressed up for the most important day of our lives.

We booked The River Barn two years in advance, giving ourselves the space to secure the suppliers we had always dreamed of and to savour every stage of the planning journey.
On the wedding day itself the team at The River Barn were faultless. From the moment Kate was about the walk down the aisle to the final call at the bar, there was always someone nearby, ready to help, guide or reassure. Their presence was subtle yet constant. The kind of support that allows you to savour every moment without a single worry.

Our colour palette for the day was green, white and gold and Fleur Designs brought our vision to life so beautifully, crafting all our flowers and styling the venue with such care and artistry. Because both our ceremony and wedding breakfast took place in the larger side of the venue, we added tall tables, decorated with lamps and bud vases, in the bar area to give guests an additional spot to gather and socialise during the cocktail hour. It created a lovely flow, allowing people to mingle without ever feeling crowded.
One of the most meaningful elements of our styling was naming each of our wedding breakfast tables after loved ones who are no longer with us. It was such a special way to honour their memory. Each table included a short message about that person and a small, framed photograph of them. A subtle but heartfelt reminder that they were with us in spirit throughout the day.

Our two dogs, Hector and Walter, were certainly not forgotten; we personalised two cocktails in their honour and created personalised coasters featuring them for every table.
To make the top table feel extra special, we added thoughtful touches: green floral charger plates, gold-rimmed wine glasses and flattering table lamps. These little details created a warm, intimate glow and helped the table feel personal and elevated.

And of course, the atmosphere of the entire day was perfectly set by our incredible band. We booked the E2E band from DFC Experience, and they exceeded every expectation. Before and during the ceremony, we had the Trio of Strings alongside Paddy and Zoe on piano and vocals, creating the most romantic and emotional backdrop. The second we walked back up the aisle as a married couple; the celebration erupted into full swing as Seanne joined us on the saxophone right into the wedding breakfast. The energy they brought carried through the entire day and well into the night, our guests are still talking about how phenomenal they were.
Every element came together to reflect not just our style, but our hearts. A celebration of beauty, memory and the people we love the most.
The River Barn is a photographer’s dream, with every corner offering its own unique charm, from the beautifully kept lawn ideal for family shots, the striking manor house backdrop perfect for confetti moments to the romantic tree-lined driveway.

We truly cannot recommend The River Barn enough, we’ve been singing their praises, along with those of our incredible suppliers, to every engaged couple we know.
The venue itself is breath-taking, offering an elegant, flexible canvas that allows you to shape the day exactly as you imagine it. The capacity is also wonderfully generous; even with more than 120 guests, the space never once felt crowded. There was always room to dance, to mingle and to enjoy the atmosphere without feeling confined.
But what sets The River Barn apart, above everything else, is the team. They are the heart of the venue, the reason the day becomes not just beautiful but unforgettable. They consistently went above and beyond, turning every inspiration we had into a reality while offering invaluable guidance throughout the planning process.
The River Barn isn’t just a venue, it’s a place where you feel genuinely cared for, supported and celebrated. For any couple searching for their perfect setting, it truly has everything.
