The Golden Age of Curves

At Bridalwear by
Emma Louise we aim to provide brides with a fabulous collection of gowns
together with the best in customer service when searching for ‘The One’.
Recently, we realised that we were lacking gowns for our plus size brides to
try on properly and so we decided to address this by introducing our new ‘Curvy
Collection’.

The next step
was to showcase and announce our new Plus Size ‘Curvy’ Bridal Collection with a
photoshoot that was glamorous, elegant and fabulous. The idea behind this shoot
came about when I was discussing with my family how much I loved our new ‘Curvy
Collection’ and how I wanted to demonstrate just how stunning these gowns were on plus size brides.
Very often you will find that even though wedding dresses are available in plus
sizes, the models in the pictures are far from it, so your curvy bride really
struggles to imagine what the gown will look like on her. I know I did when I
was searching for my own dress.

It was actually
my dad who simply said – “What about old Hollywood Glamour – Marilyn Monroe was
adored for her figure and she was a size 16?”… and so began ‘The Golden Age of Curves’ photoshoot.

Having worked
with her before, and being such a fabulous advocate for plus size brides, I
knew I wanted makeup artist Kerry Baker onboard – not only for her talent as a
makeup artist but also to model our gorgeous gowns. And knowing my vision for
the shoot, Kerry suggested her friend Nic as our second model – and how perfect
these girls were!

Within a few
days (and many Facebook messages!) our amazing team was assembled; Teresa C
Photography, Mairead at Wedlocks for hair and Sarah from The Rose Boutique,
with our venue decided upon as the stunning Mitton Hall.

On the day we
arrived at Mitton Hall we walked in to see the staircase being transformed with
glamorous gold foliage and red roses by Sarah, then found Kerry and Nic being
made up like true Hollywood Sirens – sexy, sultry and stunning.

We had taken a lot of care and planning to make sure the gowns being featured
suited the girls’ figures and demonstrated the different styles to suit the
theme of the day – something we do in
all our bridal appointments at our boutique.

Our photoshoot
features a variety of dresses from Ronald Joyce, Allure and Bonny Bridal with
accessories from the fabulous Ivory & Co. We just love how each image truly
encapsulates
the glamorous vision of the shoot and how plus size bridal is truly gorgeous
and sexy.

This is just a small selection of the gowns we have available to try on,
and whether our brides are looking for simple, classic, elegant with Hollywood
Glamour that truly makes an entrance, we pride ourselves on helping brides of
all shapes and sizes find their perfect gown.

“For our make-up, my inspiration was taken
from the 1930s and 40s; satin red lips, defined eyes and large false lashes for
a classic Hollywood siren look. This was the era where contouring was
introduced as the screen stars would often exaggerate their features to stand
out more on black and white film. In order to bring the look up to date, I
created soft smoky eyes on myself and Nic then added a subtle highlight alongside
the obligatory contoured cheeks. I absolutely loved wearing this look; it oozes
glamour and harks back to an era where the female form was truly celebrated.”

“On Nic’s gorgeous long hair, I opted for
sleek Hollywood waves, to compliment her makeup for a more glamorous look. For
a different look on Kerry Baker, we went for a fuller, bouncier curl which
looked great with her vibrant hair colour making the headpieces really stand
out.”

“I took inspiration from old Hollywood
images featuring Ginger Rodgers and a young Marilyn Monroe for lighting and
composition. The lighting used along with the soft and elegant look of the
models helped to keep the images within the chosen era but with a slight nod to
the modern.”

FLOWERS: The Rose Boutique www.theroseboutique.co.uk

“The red rose bouquet we made was a Carmen
Rose bouquet. These are very special as they are made up of individual fresh
rose petals to make a stunning alternative to a hand tied rose bouquet.“For the stairs we used foliage sprayed gold with
red rose detail to complement the gorgeous dark wood.”
