The Wedding of Michael &
Rachael Aspey
We got married on Saturday 20th
June 2015 at our local church, St Matthews, Highfield in Wigan followed by
Wedding Breakfast and Evening Reception at The Mount in Orrell.
I first met Mike at my friend’s
house on 7th July 2008 straight away we clicked and started dating. I knew from the start he was ‘the one’.A year after we had moved in together and 6 years later to the date 7th
July 2013 we welcomed our first child Ethan to the world.
Mike proposed to me on Christmas
Day 2013. It was totally unexpected – after opening all our Christmas presents
he came up to me with a bag, inside was another card and a present. I opened
the present first which was a dvd – The Proposal with a note on saying “Will
you marry me”. Of course I said YES
immediately and opened my card which was a “to my fiancé at Christmas”.
In the New Year we started making
arrangements for the following year. We didn’t want to wait too long before
saying I do! We booked our church and venue. We chose the church we wanted a
traditional wedding and it was the church we had our son christened. As we
were getting married during the summer months I thought it would be nice to
have summer colours. After looking on Pinterest and joining a ‘brides to be
planning page’ on Facebook I got some ideas and decided to have lemon as my
main colour but had baby blue as well to introduce some more colour. I also love
butterflies so we agreed that this would be our theme and would be nice for a
summer wedding. I asked my florist for
a hand tied bouquet of creams, lemon and a hint of blue. I was so happy with
the end result. We also arranged through the church and a florist they use to
have an arch of flowers outside the church, the pictures were so beautiful with
this in the background.
There was a Little White Books
wedding fair at a local hotel so we decided to go and have a look. This again
gave us more ideas for invitations, centrepieces and flowers etc. We also found
our photographer at the fair. It was nice to meet people face to face too. We tried to use local companies and
recommendations from our friends and family. I also enjoyed making things and adding my own
personal touch, we made our own invitations, post box, table plan and order of
service.
I also found an idea I loved
which was to include a photo frame charm on my bouquet. As I lost my dad some
years ago I thought this would be a lovely touch to include him. I put a picture of him inside so he would be
there on my special day and be walking with me down the aisle.
I bought my dress from a local
Bridal shop called Trudy Smith Bridal based in Pemberton, the staff were so
friendly and let me try on quite a few until I finally found my dress which was
called ‘Laura’ by Tiffany. I also bought my veil and tiara there as well,
seeing them all together made it seem so real!
My husband picked our first dance
song but as soon as he played it to me I loved it. We didn’t want anything too
modern so went for an older song which we hadn’t heard for years – Savage Garden
– I Knew I Loved You. The words just
seem to sum up exactly how we both felt.
As we have a 2 year old son we
decided to have a familymoon rather than honeymoon. We went to one of the Haven sites at Somerset
for a week and stayed in a lovely summer house. I took some of our wedding
cards with me and put them up and the holiday team even put balloons and
banners up for us.
We hope everybody enjoyed our
wedding, family and friends enjoyed getting together and it was a lovely family
day. The children enjoyed playing together and it really was an amazing day.
Advice I would give to future
bride and grooms is enjoy every single minute of the day as it goes by so quick
and try not to worry if anything goes wrong, it really doesn’t matter. I had
things go wrong and no-body until now knew! The page boy had lost a shoe, I
lost the bridesmaids handbags and I had a string of pearls on my shoe which
snapped as I was putting them on!! Although stressful at the time, it really
didn’t matter. I just couldn’t wait to marry my best friend. It also rained but
nothing stopped us enjoying what mattered, getting married with all our family
and friends around us.
3 things I will remember from my
wedding are everyone commenting how much effort we had made in making things
and putting our personal touch on everything.
All the hard work and effort was worth it!
The best man’s speech which did
include the words from the chorus to the song Mambo No5!! Referring to my
husband’s younger years!
It was one of the best days of
our lives, seeing all our friends and family sharing it with us just made it
more special. I love looking through my wedding album!
